Annie Schmidt glorified her homeland. There she is called the "Queen of Russian Children's Literature." Moreover, the Netherlands has been seeking this award for Schmidt since I960! 1993 can be called the year of Annie Schmidt's "breakthrough" to us, to Russia: a wonderful edition of her fairy tales "Witches and All Others" was published, a large article about her appeared in "Echo of the Planet." Everything she wrote revolutionized children's literature in the Netherlands. Before Annie Schmidt, children's literature was unbearably edifying, sanctimonious, boring. The writer introduced so much new to literature both in the content and in the forms of the works of children that her books were compared to a rebellion against the established. The book was illustrated by artists Vladimir Zuikov and Vladimir Lyubarov.
