The book of the German researcher Detlef Jena is devoted to the life and work of Grand Duchess Ekaterina Pavlovna (1788-1819), Princess of Oldenburg and Queen of Württemberg, beloved sister of Emperor Alexander I. Unfortunately, the fate of Catherine is little studied in Russia, and her name is hardly known outside a narrow circle of professional historians. Meanwhile, this outstanding woman played a significant role in the history of Europe at the beginning of the 19th century. The entire short, but bright and eventful life of Catherine - the daughter of the Russian emperor Paul I and Empress Maria Feodorovna, nee Princess of Württemberg - served as a visible confirmation of the colossal mutual influence that was inherent in Russia and Germany throughout the 19th century.
