Rochester Bestiary - a well-illustrated medieval manuscript based on the Greek Physiologist and Pantheologist by Peter Cornwall, describing the appearance and habits of real and fictional animals. The book contains 55 miniatures of various animals, each with a brief description at the end. In total, the manuscript describes more than 100 different animals, birds, fish, trees, including a salamander, phoenix, unicorn, dragon, manticore, bonacon, etc. The book also contains a short treatise on stones in Old French. This parchment manuscript was written around 1230-1240 in England, in Rochester Cathedral. Since 1542 it belonged to the king of Great Britain and was stored in the royal library. In 1757 he was transferred by the king to the British Museum.
