The Rurik dynasty is a dynasty of Russian princes, and then tsars, who ruled for 736 years, from the end of the 9th to the 16th century. According to the annalistic legend, Rurik, the head of the Varangian tribe "Ros" or "Rus," was called by the Ilmen Slavs to reign in Novgorod." Nestor writes that the Slavs of Novgorod are Krivichi, they sent the whole embassy out of the sea to the Varangians-Rus, tell them: "Our land is great and plentiful, but there is no order in it: go reign and own us"" This is the version of the historian N. Karamzin, set out in the "History of the Russian State."
