THIS is the Book of Ahmed ibn-Fadlan ibn-al- 'Abbas ibn-Rashid ibn-Hammad, client of the lord of the faithful, as well as client of Muhammad ibn-Suleiman, Hashimid, ambassador of al-Muqtadir to the king of the "Slavs," in which'"he reports that he himself, observing in the country the Turks, Khazars, Russ, "Slavs," Bashkirs and other peoples in terms of the differences in their creeds, information about their kings, their position in many of their affairs.
