This American tank, named after the cavalry general of the southerners, was baptized in the British army, as part of the 8th Hussar Regiment (Kings Royal Irish Hussar), who fought in North Africa. MZM5 General Stuart became the most massive light tank of the Second World War - a total of about 23 thousand "Stuarts" were produced, of which 1232 were delivered according to Lendliz in the USSR. And although our tankers did not favor this vehicle for weak weapons, it happened to fight from the Caucasus to Rzhev and from Stalingrad and Novorossiysk to Vienna and Prague, demonstrating outstanding dynamic characteristics, speed, mobility and "performance" - it was a "full-fledged cavalry tank" according to the American classification. Like the hussars, once indispensable on the battlefield and rightfully considered the elite of the light cavalry, the Stuarts were good at reconnaissance and maneuvering war, in swift raids on enemy rear areas and in pursuing a retreating enemy. Of course, they had little chance against German tanks, but in the Pacific Islands they were successfully used until the end of the war, and the flamethrower modification of the M5A1 was deservedly called Satan ("Satan"). In the new book of the leading historian of armored vehicles, you will find comprehensive information about this famous tank, its creation, improvement and combat use. The collector's edition on premium coated paper is illustrated with hundreds of exclusive schemes and photographs.
