In 1926, the organs of the OGPU seized a diary from Mikhail Bulgakov, eloquently entitled "Under the Heel." However, even this did not frighten the author of "The Master and Margarita." Until the last years of his life, Mikhail Afanasevich Bulgakov kept notes in which he described his life and the surrounding, sometimes rather gloomy, reality. The book includes the writer's diary and documents stored in the OGPU, his letters to I.V. Stalin, G.G. Yagoda, A.M. Gorky and many others. The publication is accompanied by comments by the chief specialist in the work of the writer in Russia Boris Vadimovich Sokolov.
