The book contains a reconstruction of the history of the nomadic people of the Cimmerians during their stay in Asia Minor (VIII-VII centuries BC). The relations of the Cimmerians with the ancient Eastern states (Urartu, Assyria, Media, Phrygia, Lydia, etc.) and the Asia Minor Greeks, as well as with the Scythians, are considered. The work is based on a detailed analysis of oriental (Akkadian, Hebrew, etc.) texts compared with the testimonies of ancient authors. Particular attention is paid to the problem of the ethnicity of the Cimmerians. The book includes a body of sources containing transliterations and commented translations of all Akkadian texts mentioning Cimmerians and Scythians.
