The book is an abridged translation of the voluminous work of Professor D. Roskes published in the USA in 1984. It is interesting primarily for the coverage of literary material, the vast majority of which is still inaccessible to the Russian-speaking reader. Its pages resurrect the rich spiritual life of Eastern European Jewry, a whole human culture that the Nazis mercilessly wiped off the face of the earth.
