The book "Lotus and Politics: Non-Buddhist Movements in the Public Life of Japan" is devoted to the study of Nichirenism, a Buddhist teaching that arose in the 13th century and became the leading direction of not only Japanese Buddhism, but also the entire religious life of Japan at the end of the 20th century. The main attention is paid to the fate of Nichirenism in the new and modern periods of the history of Japan, the socio-political activities of mass religious organizations of the Nichiren sense.
