The monograph is devoted to the problems of expressiveness and artistic imagery in architecture. On the material of architectural monuments of different countries and eras, from antiquity to the 20th century, the complex dependence of the architectural form on the public purpose of works of architecture is described. The development of various systems of artistic language created by architecture is traced.
