The book of the prominent national scientist, laureate of the State Prize Sergei Alexandrovich Tokarev (1899-1985) sums up the results of Russian ethnography from ancient times to 1917. First published in 1966 and now a bibliographic rarity, the book completed a long period of study of Russian ethnology, stretching from the "Tale of Bygone Years" before the October Revolution.
