In the book of Odessa historians, on the extensive material of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as a number of local archives, the operations of the Soviet ground forces and navy in the battles for Odessa in August-October 1941 were analyzed. The defenders of the city - essentially a handful of troops - for a long time held superior enemy forces in complete isolation from the main forces of the Red Army.
