For many years I have been searching and studying archival materials about Russian discoveries in the Pacific. I had to work in the archives of the museums of Veliky Ustyug, Vologda, Solvychegodsk, Kargopol, send many letters to Nizhyn and Kyakhta, Kostroma and Irkutsk, Rylsk and Krasnoyarsk, Kursk and Vladivostok, Penza and Kungur and other cities where they were born, and died, returning from distant and dangerous campaigns, Russian sailors. I read their writings, looked at their maps. Local historians, archival and museum workers, local historians and old-timers, inquisitive inquisitive people with whom our country is so rich, helped me. Old, long-forgotten books and documents that turned yellow from time to time told me about people of great fate, about the life and wanderings of Russian people, that, not sparing their belly, they went to unknown lands of the New World, overwhelmed by a passionate thirst to know the world around them.
