This edition is the first collection of memoirs about Nikolai Stepanovich Gumilyov. It is being prepared for publication when a hundred years have passed since his birth and sixty-six years have passed since the tragic death, although it would be wiser, more useful and fairer if such a book appeared, say, fifty years earlier. The purpose of this publication is to show Gumilyov as a poet and as a living person, as a person in a living environment, in communication, conversations and daily activities - in a word, to make a person closer to us, glorious for his literary and life feat, a person who lived well, enriched Russian literature, influenced contemporaries and descendants, and the process of poetic development itself.
