Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikova (1711-1755) belongs to those modest heroes for whom Russia is so famous. The son of a soldier, for outstanding academic success, he was chosen for scientific preparation for participation in the Second Kamchatka Expedition. The expedition set out in August 1733. After four years of the hardest journey, members of the "academic retinue," citing poor health, refused a further trip, informing St. Petersburg that student Krasheninnikov would cope with the study of Kamchatka. And he did it!
