One of the most notable recent demographic changes worldwide is the increasing number of unmarried women. In Western countries, urban "loners" became a recognizable part of the cultural landscape in the late 1980s. Actively consuming and voting, the inhabitants of megacities turn into an influential audience, which can no longer be reckoned with. In the countries of the former USSR, this new social phenomenon is just beginning to attract public attention. The book "Single: Sex, Love and Family Beyond Marriage" explores the causes and some consequences of this phenomenon, addressing the everyday life of career-oriented women living in big cities. The author's lens turns out to be the challenges that modern women face when dealing with the moral norms that have formed in agrarian societies.
