The book highlights the foundations of a new direction in domestic linguistics - linguistic source study, subject, method and other concepts of this science. The justification of the source study aspect in studies on the history of the Russian language is given, the significance of the monuments of the South Great Russian dialect in the development of this history is revealed, optimal sources for the study of the folk language of the national era are characterized. Issues of written culture and the composition of peripheral scribes are also considered.
