English puzzle master Henry E. Dudeney is rightfully considered a classic of entertaining mathematics. According to the famous mathematician Andre Weil, "in mathematics, as in music, literature and most other areas of human activity, the term "classical" can be understood in a purely chronological sense. Then it denotes something preceding everything that is commonly called "modern," and can be used to describe both ancient times and the achievements of the past year. Sometimes this term is used to praise a particular work that, in the opinion of the speaker, can be of lasting importance." Both interpretations of Weil apply equally to the problems of Henry Ernest Dudeny, which were included in the collection offered to the reader. These problems, or, as Dudeny himself preferred to call them, puzzles, are certainly among the classic ones, if we approach their assessment with chronological scales: for about a century it has been separating us from the time when the "youngest" of them was created. They equally undoubtedly deserve the epithet "classical," understood in the second sense. And this is not just praise: Dewdenie's puzzles are firmly in the gold fund of entertaining mathematics. The proposed book collects 520 problems and puzzles of Dudeny on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, cutting and figure composition. These are puzzles from two books by G. Dudeny: "Modern Puzzles" and "Entertaining Tasks and Puzzles." The reader will meet with the permanent heroes of Dudeny - the Crackham family, Professor Rackbrain and others.
