I.A. Krylov - Russian publicist, poet, fabulist, publisher of satirical and educational magazines. Best known as the author of 236 fables collected in nine lifetime collections (published from 1809 to 1843). The plots of a number of Krylov's fables go back to the fables of Lafontaine (who, in turn, borrowed them from Aesop, Phaedrus and Babrius), although there are many original plots.
