A novel about the civil war in southern Russia, about the defeat of the Denikin region by the young Red Army. The main character of the work is scout Pavel Koltsov, who acted on the instructions of the red command at the headquarters of the Denikin troops. The events depicted in the novel and its hero are widely known from the television film of the same name.
