The monograph is devoted to the study of the most important and interesting social phenomenon of the Stalinist era - a special contingent. The author gives historical meaning to this bureaucratic term, born in the depths of the repressive machine, which denoted millions of people turned into a mass subordinate to the NKVD, committed to work: prisoners, special settlers, labor soldiers, prisoners of testing and filtration camps, prisoners of war and internees.
