The history of the revolutionary movement in Turkestan, especially in its pre-October period, is still poorly understood. The same can be said about the revolutionary events of 1916 in Turkestan. With the exception of references in two or three words about the uprising of the natives of Turkestan against tsarism in 1916, in the books devoted to the present Turkestan and a number of short articles published in connection with the anniversary of the decade of the World War, on the pages of Turkestan newspapers, there are no other works either in native or in Russian languages. Some of those interested in Turkestan are still inclined to assume that only the Kyrgyz rebelled in 1916 in the Dzhetysu (Semirechensk) region, while others, having a generally vague idea of ​ ​ these events, suggest that they are almost no different from the ordinary excesses observed before tsarism.
