This is another volume published as part of a grandiose project dedicated to the history of Russian and world culture. The concept of "East" has changed in different eras; the author begins the story with Palestine, Phoenicia, Syria - the Holy Land for all religions associated with the biblical tradition. The dramatic events of the Old Testament history, familiar to us from the Bible, but hardly properly understood by us; the great mystery of the history of the New Testament, the redemptive mission of Jesus Christ, His image in world culture, including in the spiritual heritage of Russia, are the main themes of this book. And the more "eastern" East in it is represented by Ancient India - the guardian of Vedic traditions and the homeland of Buddhism, which, according to the author's firm conviction, in many manifestations of its culture is deeply related to Russia, its spiritual heritage and its very attitude.
