The action of this historical novel dates back to the middle and second half of the 18th century, when the Karakalpaks, divided into clans and tribes, were subjected to devastating raids by troops of neighboring khanates. The Karakalpaks saw their salvation in joining Russia. Maman-biy, the protagonist of the novel, undertook to fulfill this popular dream.
