Veresaev Vikenty Vikentievich (nast, surname Smidovich; 1867--1945) - writer, literary critic. The result of the writer's reflections on Pushkin the poet and Pushkin the man were also a book of articles under the self-explanatory title "In Two Planes" (1929) and the widely known literary and documentary montage "Pushkin in Life" - "a systematic set of genuine testimonies of contemporaries," as Veresaev himself defines this book (M., 1926--1927. No. 1--4; 6th ed. -- M., 1936. T. 1--2). In the Soviet press, "Pushkin in Life" was immediately criticized both for the lack of proper verification of sources and for "ideological mistakes" (for a set of reviews, see: Bibliography of the works of A. S. Pushkin and literature about him: 1918-1936. L., 1973. PART 2. S. 78, 89, 146). Veresaev's work about Pushkin among the writers of the Russian diaspora caused an equally violent reaction. So, for example, Khodasevich spoke negatively about the book "In Two Plans" in the journal "Modern Notes" (1931. Kn. XLIV). Answering Veresaev's accusations of absolutizing the biographical method, Khodasevich argued: "I did not write such absurdities, and it is extremely naive to suspect me of "naive autobiography." It is even more naive to put forward the opposite dogma: about Pushkin's absolute antibiographicality" (Khodasevich V.F. Sobr. Op.: In 4 vol. M., 1996. VOL. 2. S. 498).
