An adventure novel in the steampunk genre of the French science fiction writer Pascal Grusset (pseudonym - Andre Laurie), author of adventure literature, follower of Jules Verne, member of the Paris Commune in 1871, publicist. Laurie Andre (present name and fam. Pascal Grousset; 1845-1909) - French politician, journalist, writer. One of the active figures in the Paris Commune. As a writer, Laurie was strongly impressed by his great contemporary Jules Verne. At least two novels by J. Verne, "Five Hundred Million Begums" and "South Star," were originally written by Laurie, and then (with Laurie's consent and under pressure from J. Etzel - J. Verne's regular publisher) corrected, edited, and completely rewritten by J. Verne. Laurie's own work consists of 10 novels, mainly science fiction, adventure: "Exiles of the Earth: Selene's Company" (1887), "Atlantis" (1895), "New York - Brest in Seven Hours" (Russian translation 1890), etc.
