The textbook discusses the history and techniques of Western European metal engraving of the 15th-18th centuries: the emergence of this type of art, stylistic features of the technique of cutting engraving with examples from the works of such outstanding Renaissance masters as Dürer, Luca Leidensky, Raimondi, Mantegna; stylistic features of the etching technique and individual techniques of etching by such outstanding masters as Kallo, Segers, Rembrandt, Tiepolo, Piranesi, Goya, and other outstanding masters. Information is provided on materials, recipes and techniques for making engraving on metal. Various etching manners are described in detail: aquatint, reserve, soft varnish, dry needle, mezzo-tinto and other manners.
