In this book, J. Dumezil, a myth researcher who studied comparative mythology, sums up his many years of research in this area. Unfortunately, there is no material on Slavic and Baltic sources. But, comparing the myths of various Indo-European peoples, such as Indians, Iranians, Germans, Romans, Greeks, Celts, the author came to the conclusion that the pre-Indo-European society is divided into classes, each of which corresponds to its own deities - warriors (Indra, Tor, Ares, Mars), priests (Odin, Zeus, Jupiter, Mitra, Vaeva rune), farmers (Freyr, Quirin).
