The attempt of the Russian-American telegraph society to connect Europe with America through Alaska, the Bering Strait and Siberia with a telegraph wire was one of the most ambitious enterprises of the late 19th century. In 1865, one of the American expeditions landed in Petropavlovsk in order to collect information about the climate, soil, local population, and in general terms outline the line of the proposed telegraph. The book is a travel impression made during the expedition's journey through Siberia, where the author describes the hardships and trials that fell to their lot, the nature of Siberia, the customs and customs of the local population.
