The book discusses physicochemical processes in vacuum and on the surface of a solid, the flow of gases through a pipeline; issues of volumetric and sorption pumping, principle of operation of vacuum pumps, leakage; typical vacuum diagrams of machines and installations, basic design of vacuum systems are given. In the second edition (1st - 1982), sections of the physics of vacuum, physical processes and sorption phenomena in vacuum are given in a new methodological presentation.
