The new novel by the famous Russian writer Alexander Kerdan is dedicated to the great traveler and navigator Vitus Bering (1681-1741). Being a Danish by birth, Bering devoted his whole life to serving Russia. His main act was the Great Siberian (Second Kamchatka) expedition. It was a grandiose scientific and research project even on a modern scale! Of course, he immediately had both supporters and ill-wishers. A thick web of intrigue rapidly grew around Bering. Not wanting to ruin a big deal, the brave Dane included several of his fiercest opponents in the expedition. The expedition units were continuously monitored, all sorts of intrigues were built up to a direct boycott of officials along their route. The great journey took place, but it turned out to be the last for many of its participants...
