The third volume, Literature of the Mid-19th Century (Late Romanticism), is dedicated to one of the most striking periods of American culture associated with the formation of national literature and a new stage in the development of romanticism. The book examines the features of late American romanticism, represented by the work of such major artists as N. Gothorn, G. Mlville, E. Po, G.U. Longfellow, who became figures of a global scale. Patterns of development of prose, poetry and drama of this period are revealed.
