The range of events, performances, people subjected to caustic satirical ridicule, parody or graceful ironic "destruction" in the History of New York is truly endless: from naive concepts about the life of early Dutch settlers to the public policy of Thomas Jefferson, from quasi-scientific historical works to poems by Walter Scott, which read Americans. Historical time formally extends here from the "creation of the world" to the end of the 17th century, but in essence, "The History of New York" is a book about modernity written for contemporaries. The past here is only an occasion for a variety of ironic comments and hints, but not the subject of artistic research, as, for example, in the novels of Walter Scott.
