Obeying the highest order of Empress Gammei, the court historiographer Ono Yasumaro in the spring of 712 presented three scrolls of the "Records of the Acts of Antiquity" to her court. The first scroll of this oldest monument to Japanese writing includes a set of myths. The final two Kojiki scrolls contain the chronological events of Japanese history until the beginning of the 7th century, the genealogy and deeds of the first emperors. Kojiki is the holy book of Shinto, the national religion of the Japanese. The full translation of the monument is published for the first time. The book uses illustrations from the album "Nihonbunka no rekishi" (Tokyo, 1979. T.1), as well as family coats of arms of ancient Japanese clans.
