Mentalization-based treatment is a form of psychodynamic psychotherapy developed and implemented by Peter Fonagy and Anthony Bateman. Mentalization is intended for the therapy of patients suffering from borderline personality disorder and unable to independently comprehend their relationships with other people. The goal of therapy is to help patients develop the ability to mentalize, which in turn will help regulate expressions of feelings and interpersonal relationships.
