Physical, technological and operational mechanisms of surface microgeometry formation are considered. The main methods of measuring roughness and describing its geometric properties using parameters used in production, in scientific applications and in solving diagnostic problems are discussed. Issues of registration and analysis of information on properties of rough surfaces are described.
