The new stage of Russian fine art is associated primarily with the activities of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions that arose at the turn of the 1860s and 1870s. The Wanderers sought to comprehensively reflect not only the contemporary reality of Russia, but also history. An important place was occupied by the household genre, portrait, and landscape. The Partnership included all the largest masters of painting of that time. To a large extent, based on their works, P.M. Tretyakov founded in Moscow the first publicly available museum of Russian art. And the Russian Museum was opened in St. Petersburg. The opening of two museums of Russian art is evidence of the outstanding achievements of Russian painters of the 19th century.
