The origin of the words capercaillie or black grouse is interpreted differently. Some, and by the way L.P. Sabaneev, associate this name with the concept of deaf forest, forest wilderness, i.e. with the habitats of the bird. Others understand this name in the literal sense, considering the capercaillie to be a deaf bird that does not perceive sounds.
