The paper comprehensively examines political, diplomatic, trade and economic relations and scientific and cultural ties between the USSR and the USA against a wide background of the development of international events, especially in Europe and the Far East. The strategic goals of the two states, coincidence and divergence of their interests are analyzed. The negotiations of the ambassadors of both countries with their leadership on cardinal issues of diplomacy are described in detail.
