This publication is a collection of documentary essays and sketches about the formation, development and activities of Russian justice, and primarily the prosecutor's office, over its almost 300-year history. It widely presents unknown, previously not published anywhere, or archival documents and materials published in inaccessible (special) sources. The book consists of five parts devoted to specific historical eras: the time from Peter I to the Judicial Reform; from Alexander II to the October Revolution; Soviet (Stalinist) period of history until 1953; a period of "thaw" and "perestroika" culminating in the collapse of the Soviet Union; post-Soviet period from 1992 to the present day.
