The book contains works on Byzantine art, mainly on Byzantine painting. The articles fall into six groups: posing methodological questions, revealing the ties of Byzantium with Italy, analyzing monumental paintings, icons, miniatures. The book also includes three chapters from the "History of Byzantine Painting" by V. N. Lazarev: "Fundamentals of Byzantine Art," "Byzantine Aesthetics," "System of Picturesque Decoration of the Byzantine Temple." Together, the articles cover almost all sides of Byzantine art culture.
