The current state of the main problems and achievements in the development of the element base of integrated optics and optical integrated circuits for information transmission and processing systems is given. Methods of construction of integrated optical devices and optical integrated circuits for fibre-optic communication lines, computer equipment, information processing systems are considered. Compatibility issues and methods of matching optical integrated circuits with optical fibers and radiation sources are considered in detail. The place and relationship of optical integrated circuits and electronic integrated circuits in information systems are shown. Limit possibilities of integrated optics are considered, factors limiting them are discussed.
