The work of D.K. Maxwell (1831-1879) on electricity and magnetism was first published in 1873. It contains the theory of electric and magnetic phenomena created by Maxwell. This theory currently forms the foundation of modern natural science. In its significance for the development of science, the Treatise is on a par with Newton's Beginnings and Faraday's Experimental Studies. In Volume I, Maxwell included electrostatics and electrokinematics - electric currents. The second volume of the "Treatise" deals with magnetism and electromagnetism.
