The book conducts a retrospective analysis of the evolution of human understanding in European philosophy - from Aristotle's first conceptualization of man to Foucault's theory of practices. In the prism of today's anthropological situation, the path of thought about man appears to be correlative to the path of philosophy in Heidegger's vision: "oblivion of being" finds a correspondence in "oblivion of man." Touching fluently on the initial stages of European anthropology, the book focuses on revealing the genesis of the "anti-anthropology" of classical metaphysics in Descartes and Kant. From a chosen angle, the Hegel System turns out to be the ultimate point of the anti-anthropological trend, and the philosophy of opponent Hegel Kierkegaard is the starting point of the opposite trend, return to man. The beginning and end (to this day) of this trend receive the most attention: the book reconstructs in detail the anthropology of Kierkegaard and late Foucault.
