Saga of the Volsungs (isl. V? lsunga saga) is a 13th-century Icelandic saga. The most famous of the "Sagas of Ancient Times," telling about the legendary history of Scandinavia in terms of pan-German myths. Describes the emergence and decline of the Völsung clan (Sigmund and Sigurd), including the history of Brunhild and the destruction of the Burgundian house. The saga is based on epic poetry. The oldest known graphic representation of the plot is found on one of the so-called Sigurd stones in Sweden (Ramsund carving) and dates back to the 11th century. The plot itself is much older and describes the events that took place in Europe in the 5th century.
