Along with the usual for us in the world, there are often phenomena that confuse a person with their unusual, seeming mystery. Egyptian statues sing, stones say, mountains groan, visions of angels, saints, unclean spirits arise in front of the inflamed gaze of a traveler in a sultry desert, instant "healings" of serious illnesses occur, prophets and fakirs perform "miracles" in front of an amazed crowd. Not surprisingly, superstitious people have long interpreted these facts as a manifestation of supernatural powers, and enterprising cults have passed them off as proof of the truth of their religion.
