Along with animals, more or less normal, described in all writings on natural history, there are many that, deviating from the usual type, seem to us extraordinary in their shape, habits or lifestyle. The large public knows very little about these animals, since information about them is found only in special scientific treatises, which are of no interest to the vast majority of readers.
