The main protocols used in optical networks, issues of system testing, methods of information flow transmission are considered. Much attention is paid to the equipment of the digital hierarchy, compaction issues, optical access networks. New passive and active network elements, domestic and foreign cables are considered. The principles of operation of optical Raman (WRC) amplifiers, an electroabsorption light modulator, widely used in modern high-speed transmission systems, are illuminated.
