The essence of the accounting case and its content were considered. The history of the formation of the profession of a modern accountant and auditor has been traced. The current state of the profession in Russia is highlighted. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the position of the accounting service in the management structure of the organization and the status of this service. The specifics of accounting and auditing in a computer environment have been determined.
